Henry J. Hampton served in the 10th Mt. Division where he commanded the 1st Battalion of the 86th Infantry Regiment. In February 1945, Hampton planned and commanded the famous assault on Riva Ridge, for which he was awarded the Silver Star. Later, he was wounded in action near Sassomolare, Italy on March 4, 1945.
